Two factors weigh heavily against effectiveness of scienticfic research in indusrty.
One is the general atmosphere of secrecy in which it is carried out,the other the lack of freedom of the individual research worker.
主要就是这里in which it is carried out,请问其中的which和it分别是指什么?
我的理解是which 指industry,而it 指atmosphere.和一个朋友争论了一下,她认为which 指secrecy,理由是in which it is carried out这句话是定语从句,which就正好跟在先行词的后面.但我认为从句意上面分析,我认为我的是正确的.
希望英语牛牛朋友解答一下.

也许是钻牛角尖,就想确定which
指 atmosphere
或 secrecy
还是general atmosphere of secrecy
我认为secrecy是先行词

可见如果在容易造成歧义的情况下,定语从句可以和先行词分开的.如果上面这句话这样的话
I happened to meet the man you once spoke to in the street.
可能会有两种意思.
而在general atmosphere of secrecy 里面,atmosphere是中心词,which指的应该就是它.

which 指the general atmosphere of secrecy,
it 指 scientific reasearch in industry ．
出现问题根据原文的翻译推敲一下,就可以得出以上的结论了．
我整和后的意思是,有两个因素严重影响了科研工作的效率,一个是科研工作进行的保密氛围,一个是研究人员缺乏自由．
