There was no moon and the garden was almost completely dark. The house at the end of the garden was a big shape. It was impossible to see the windows or the doors clearly. The man smiled to himself. He could not have asked for a better night for his plan. Bending down low, he slowly made his way up the garden towards the house. Once he stepped in a dead branch(树枝) which broke under his foot with a loud noise. The man stood still, his heart beating in fear that the noise would be heard. But all remained dark and quiet. When he felt safe again, the man continued to move nearer to the house. Only a few minutes had passed, but it seemed like hours to him; he reached the narrow stone path which ran along the back wall of the house. Here he waited for a few seconds before crossing the path. He then moved along the wall, going from window to window , trying to find one that was open. All were closed. He had expected this. Rich men are usually very careful with windows and doors.
